De Uitrit was founded by Floris Kruijer, owner of a 1987 Nissan Bluebird, in order to provide a suitable opportunity for people to bid farewell to their deceased cars.

Many people feel a strong emotional attachment to their car. They give it a name and immediately wipe off every single bird dropping. Sometimes I actually hear myself saying out loud: ‘Well done boy, once again you managed to bring us safely to our destination!’, while I pat my car on the dashboard.

As we all know, cars too have a limited life expectancy. No matter how careful you are, eventually the day will come when your car will break down and die.

And yet, our society still does not provide any dignified setting for bidding farewell to our cars. Interestingly, in many languages (including Dutch) the place where we bring our old faithful set of wheels when it finally dies, is in fact called a ‘car cemetery’. There is thus clearly a subconscious connection in our minds between breaking down and passing away.

This is why we believe the time has come to introduce a suitably dignified ritual.

From now on, De Uitrit provides you at last with the opportunity to bid your car an appropriate farewell.
