What inspires you?

Things that catch me off-guard. It's the mundane things that aren't necessarily meant to be surprising, that I tend to find the most exciting. I am inspired by boring things because they are what the world is built on.

What is your USP as a tutor?

While I recognise that the term "USP" often refers to the "Unique Selling Proposition" of a good, service, or human, I am choosing to interpret the acronym as Unabashedly Serious Position. My Unabashedly Serious Position as a tutor is that what I teach, Graphic Design is less a subject and more a toolset. When you study Graphic Design, you may not end up working as a graphic designer, but instead as someone who uses the skill set and ways of thinking taught in Graphic Design to do an enormous variety of other things that go beyond the traditional poster, logo, or book. This is a good thing.

Graphic Design is less a subject and more a toolset

What is your dream/goal as a tutor?

I want my students to believe that they are capable of building the world they want to live in. I want them - when they graduate -to be able to imagine another world and to make it happen.

Name one item from your bucket list?

One day, I hope to give an entirely earnest and straightforward answer to a question.

Name a true pioneer.

It's a toss-up between orchids and lichen. Both are pioneer species which have adaptations that allow them to live in barren areas unsuitable for other plant life. Not only that, but they lay the groundwork for other species by doing things like fixing nitrogen in the soil, and breaking down into the fertile ground in which other plants can grow. This is a good way to live your life.

I am less fond of the term pioneer as it relates to humans because I find it difficult to decouple from histories of European colonialism. So lichen. Let's say lichen.
