Katarina Zdjelar is the winner of the 2016 Dolf Henkes Award, awarded every two years to an iconic Rotterdam artist. Chairman Alexander Ramselaar announced the winner to the public during the award ceremony on Thursday 9 February. The jury was impressed with how Katarina Zdjelar is building a consistent body of work that continues to crystallise. She remains true to its principles, media, and themes, and her affecting work is repeatedly convincing. The work of the winner and the three other nominees, Rory Pilgrim, Daan Botlek, and Rana Hamadeh, is on show until 26 February at TENT.
Katarina Zdjelar (1979, Belgrade, Serbia) studied Fine Art at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Her work has been exhibited at the 53rd Venice Biennale, ICA London, MACBA Barcelona, Buro Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Sztuki Lodz, Busan Biennale (2016), Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, and TENT Rotterdam.
