Maybe I should start by introducing myself: my name is Laura Liza, I (pretty much) live at the academy and I breathe, dream and think illustration. The academy provides me with a place where I can expand upon my interest and passion for illustration while sharpening my skills. I’ve already learned so many different new techniques in the past half year. What’s really cool is that all the different Stations provide you with different means for telling your story: the Publication Station is a place where you can print your images using all kinds of paper and printing techniques, as well as binding techniques. The Material Station allows you to transform your 2D drawings into sculptures, or to make a mould that allows you to make 100 copies. In the Fabric Station we can embroider our own patches, knit patterns and make all our fashion dreams come true. And then, last but not least, the Drawing Station which is my natural home base as an illustrator, where I take most of my classes and spend countless hours drawing using digital and analog techniques.

I live at the academy and I breathe, dream and think illustration.

As I said, the fun never stops. That is, until the deadline is near, then it’s time for stress, panic, too many setbacks and too little time... and, NOOO, a bottle of ink spilled all over everything.

But together we struggle our way to the finishing line, and once we’ve submitted our work and presented our projects, we can all drink a beer together and look back upon a successful project.

The leaves are from the Linking project in Quarter 3, where I studied animation and we were asked to make a leader film for a festival. The brief abstract animation was also realised during that quarter.
