ERASMUS exchange (6 months)

Why did you opt for studying at WdKA?

I chose to do the exchange at Willem de Kooning Academy because I saw the work they did for the Animation department and was in awe in what they produced. I researched the school and it had a very good reputation as an art school in the Netherlands. One of the main things was also because the program was taught in English which was very helpful of course as I wanted to understand what I was being taught, however it didn’t stop me from learning basic Dutch as I socialized with people every day.

How is Rotterdam similar to or different from your hometown?

What do you like or dislike about it?

Rotterdam is very different to where I study, Rotterdam is a big city with lots of fun things to do and have lots of nice restaurants and bars to go with friends. I like how everything is very close together and within walking distance. However if you want to go to other cities it’s easy and convenient because there is a lot of public transport.

I loved how multicultural the city was, I met lots of amazing people from all over the world and you get to widen your mind with many cultures. Also there was so much variety of food to choose, from Sudanese to Indonesian. I ate a lot of delicious food and Dutch pastries are so good!

The only thing I disliked was the weather during winter! It was freezing and rained quite a lot, and that’s saying something as I live in the UK!

Name your favorite working space within WdKA.

Name three of your favourite places in Rotterdam, your personal hidden gems.

Fenix Food Factory, Witte de With Street (of course!), Lantaren Venster.

Dutch people are...?

Kind, open, very direct (haha), very tall (I’m 1.5m!), very stylish.
