The Executive Board has appointed Úna Henry as dean of the Willem de Kooning Academy. She will start in this position from November 1, 2023.
The Participation Council (IMR) supports the nomination of the selection committee, which consisted of a member of the Executive Board, a dean and a broad delegation from within the academy, namely a student and two staff delegates from the IMR, two staff members and two students, the Office for Inclusivity advisor, two management team members and the HRM Business Partner.
Úna Henry (Northern Ireland, 1971) is currently the founding director of the Graduate Institute of Avans University of Applied Sciences and prior to this was Head of the Master Institute of Visual Cultures. She has extensive experience of higher education, combined with knowledge of arts research at the intersection of civic engagement, environmental and cultural thought, expanded through technology, economics and science. With a background as an artist and curator, Úna received her doctorate in Fine Art from the Ruskin School of Fine Art, University of Oxford in 2017. She serves on several boards and committees, amongst which the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA), member of the supervisory board of Stichting Framer Framed in Amsterdam and on the board of directors of CASE (Centre for Arts and Sciences Education).

Het College van Bestuur heeft Úna Henry benoemd tot directeur van de Willem de Kooning Academie. Zij zal in deze functie starten vanaf 1 november aanstaande.De medezeggenschapsraad steunt de voordracht van de selectiecommissie, die bestond uit een lid van het College van Bestuur, een directeur en een brede afvaardiging vanuit de academie, te weten een student- en twee staf afgevaardigden van de IMR, twee stafleden en twee studenten, de Office for Inclusivity adviseur, twee managementteamleden en de HRM Business Partner.Úna Henry (Noord-Ierland, 1971) is momenteel kwartiermaker/directeur van het Graduate Institute van Avans Hogeschool en was daarvoor hoofd van het Master Institute of Visual Cultures. Ze heeft uitgebreide ervaring in het hoger onderwijs en het onderzoek van kunst op het snijvlak van maatschappelijke betrokkenheid, ecologisch en cultureel denken, in combinatie met technologie, economie en wetenschap. Úna heeft een achtergrond als beeldend kunstenaar en curator en promoveerde in 2017 aan de Ruskin School of Fine Art, University of Oxford.
