In the Netherlands and Belgium dozens of people die every year in absolute loneliness. A group of poets write a poem especially for these lonely deceased, that they present during the funeral. The humane character of the lonely funeral touched photographer Bianca Sistermans and writer Hester van Hasselt. The artists have come up with The Festival of Loneliness, in collaboration with the Municipality of Amsterdam.
They have invited the second year's students of the Willem the Kooning Academy for a unique collaboration to develop branding for the Festival of Loneliness.
And with branding of the Festival also to draw attention for this increasing, terrible problem. The results of this collaboration are presented in a joint exhibition of the two artists and the students of the Willem the Kooning Academy at the Museum Tot Zover.
