Nine Lions of the Wijnhaven

Sep 28 2017 Oct 29 2017
Arts event with nine installations by ten alumni from the Willem de Kooning Academy

The arts event Nine Lions of the Wijnhaven (nine installations by ten alumni from the Willem de Kooning Academy) will open at Scheepswerf Koningspoort, Koningsdam 1 in Rotterdam at 5 p.m. on Thursday 28 September, with a welcome word from Suardes Ebbinge, Chairman of the Area Commission, and guided tours by the artists. The event will take place in Rotterdam’s Maritime District, at various locations around the Wijnhaven and the Oude Haven. The exact locations are announced on the event's Facebook page. The installations can be viewed from Thursday 28 September until Sunday 29 October 2017.

Exhibits include: a waterfall, a castle in the air and a flying carpet. Emma de Jong, Giovanni Maisto Ferreira, Julia Marino, Annebel de Kok + Esther van Brakel, Rowan van As, Kirsten Spruit, Gijsbert van der Wilt, Naomi Modde and Jip van der Hek present new work they have created in relation to the Maritime District and the Wijnhaven.

The area around the Wijnhaven, in particular, will be subject to major change in the coming years. A great number of residential tower blocks is to be built, substantially changing the character and structure of the district. In their work, the artists respond to those future developments, and at various locations around the Wijnhaven, the public space will act as the medium for a work of art. The nine presentations will be on show for four weeks.

Everybody is welcome! Please let the organisers know if you will join the event via offblaakvrijhaven@gmail.com
