Job Opportunity: Project Leader "Office for Inclusivity"

Willem de Kooning Academy
Tue 1 Sep

The Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (WdKA/RUAS), offers a variety of bachelor and master programmes in the field of visual culture, art, design, education in arts, and leisure management.

At the moment we are looking for:

Project Leader "Office for Inclusivity" (0.4 fte)

The WdKA is committed to creating an inclusive educational culture. We aim to educate students who will become a new generation of artists and designers that shape an equitable and sustainable future through their capacity of creating collaborative and transformative practices.

Since re-inventing the curriculum in 2013 to meet our ambitions, we are growing in our understanding that our community and the communities we serve are diverse in ways we have not yet successfully incorporated in our learning environment.

We want to create a Critical Diversity Literate Art Academy, in which students and teachers of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, genders, sexualities and (dis-) abilities feel treated with equity and are supported to explore their full potential.

We are enhancing the process of becoming that academy by formulating an action plan for the next four years to actively and sustainably increase inclusivity and diversity in our educational culture and organizational structure.

As part of this action plan we want to establish an intra-curricular initiative that will be working actively between and beyond the structures and discourses of the academy; to put the topics of inclusion and diversity firmly into the conversation, to support existing initiatives, while also developing outreach programs, drawing in new perspectives, and making the context of the academy more inclusive to other voices, minds and bodies: an Office for Inclusivity. We are looking for a project leader for such an Office for Inclusivity.

Three different focusses will be coming together in the role of project leader/quartermaster:

  • Helping to surface, identify and connect existing initiatives;
  • Advising on the establishment of an ‘office for inclusivity’;
  • Coach and confidentiality person for students and teachers who cannot (yet) find a connection to the existing fabric of support.

The position will initially have a limited time span, comprising of the research of the organisation, support of students and advice to management. Based on the advice follow up steps will be taken. We are looking for someone who is experienced in helping organisations in this transitional work.

We are looking for someone who can critically evaluate both our organisation and curriculum and who can advise on the process of sustainable change within the context and fabric of the academy. A person who embodies the discourse and can identify existing initiatives, enthusiasts and allies. Someone who can formulate specific activities to put inclusion on the agenda so the organisation can work towards results.

We are looking for an organiser who can support and nurture student- and teacher initiatives. Who understands and is respectful for the need for confidentiality in defined situations and who can be critically optimistic, collaboratively formulating steps in response to what is shared, connecting to the fabric of support already in place at WdKA (Study Career Coaches, Student Counseling, Confidentiality Officer).
