Are you who we are looking for?
As an education manager at the Willem de Kooning Academy, you have demonstrable knowledge of and experience in contemporary art and design practices in art education. You recognize yourself in the interdisciplinary education of the Willem de Kooning Academy with its Autonomous, Social, Commercial Practices, and transdisciplinary practices through the RASL (Rotterdam Arts & Science Lab) programme.
You endorse these fluid areas of research and believe in the need to make new connections in order to enhance the value of art and design in societal contexts of change and transformation. You are an arbitrator, a leader and coach and ensure the balanced and durable growth of students and staff within a dynamic and socially safe academic culture. You inspire and motivate and go by the principle of valuing staff. You care for students and encourage them to participate in the transformative and adventurous process of learning.
At the same time, you are a critical thinker who is able to go beyond the prevailing norm and, for example, challenge normativity in art education through underrepresented and alternative theories and practices.
You recognize the need to renew traditional training routes in the arts in order to better reflect the modern art and design practices the Willem de Kooning Academy aims to coach its students for. Based on the experience you have gained in education you recognize the importance of a well-organized educational program and of expert didactic team action by tutors for the development of individual students.
As member of the Management team, you will lead and represent the bachelor, master and research programs. You ensure pluriform notions of art and design practices, relating to the growing inclusivity of the WdKA as an institute. Within the community you lead and engage education teams in this institutional development.
You are accountable for the educational environment and lead the work on continuous improvement with students and staff. You co-develop administrative, organizational and academic policies and lead their implementation. You report to the WdKA dean on quality assurance and enhancement and have responsibility for the allocated budgets.
