The Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (WdKA/RUAS), offers a variety of bachelor and master programs in the field of visual culture, art, design, education in arts, and leisure management.

The curriculum of the Willem de Kooning Academy is founded in an interdisciplinary ethos through the Autonomous, Social and Commercial Practices. The Majors are the entry point of study for all Bachelor students; the Practices the interdisciplinary research contexts in the second half of the Bachelor programs; and the highly unique Stations (advanced workshops focused on Research through Making) complete the three pillars of the institute.

About Animation at the WdKA

The WdKA animation programme focuses on innovative and relevant stories that reflect contemporary society. Upon arrival, students dive directly in the fundamentals of animation, building a foundation of knowledge, skills and attitude that transcends one specific technique or software package. Animation is used in wide variety of applications; films, series, games, VR, apps, commercials, simulations, educational material, expositions and in the public space. During the course students choose to develop themselves as animators, directors, visual designers or creative producers in various contexts.

 

Position

The Major Animation is open to hiring hiring several animation tutors for a 0.5-1 day/week position with 2 different focus points.

We are looking for a professional from the animation practice who can teach first and second year students. In our project-based education different teachers guide students, each on a specific part of the project (movement, narrative, visual, cinematography. This vacant position relates to underlying animation principles and movement quality.

Furthermore we are on the look out for an animation filmmaker who can guide students in the development of their concepts, narratives and artistic direction.

In both cases you should be excited about questioning established norms through design and be a proponent of critical new media literacy. The ability to work collaboratively is a must, as all of our education is team-based.

 

Requirements

· A bachelor-level degree in fine art, design or a relevant program has our preference.

· A commitment to developing new forms of design education within the bachelor Animation program.

· An interest in project-based education and a willingness to participate in team teaching.

· To be considered as a candidate for this vacancy, you must be eligible to work in the Netherlands. We do not offer the option of applying for a work permit.

· An excellent command of verbal and written English.

· An interest and practice based experience to teach in the interdisciplinary Practices is an advantage.

· Familiarity and an ability to engage with design communities in Rotterdam is a major asset.

Previous experience in education is a pro, but we encourage very motivated creatives with unusual experience and diverse backgrounds and talents to apply. We would like to enlarge cultural diversity within our team.

 

The successful candidates will be enthusiastic and thoughtful teachers who are interested in helping the Animation major to stay ahead of the developments in the creative practice. The ideal candidates will have a desire to grow in the position and take an active role in the life of the program and are keen to develop their educational practice alongside an existing professional design practice.

Conditions

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences offers a temporary contract, from September 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022. The salary ranges from € 2845,48 to € 4307,66 gross per month (salary scale 10) for a full-time employment, exclusive of additional 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. Secondary benefits include professional training opportunities and an attractive pension scheme.

 

All staff members of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences must be able to submit a Certificate of Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag, VOG) issued by the Dutch Minister of Justice and Security.

Caveats
