Experience the building and the teaching methods. Gain a clearer understanding of the various professional specializations and the structure of the curriculum. Work on developing a strong portfolio.

Let our experienced tutors help you make the right choice. Sink your teeth into two (introductory) assignments. Learn about work processes and how to develop better ideas. Broaden your frame of reference through three design lectures with short assignments. Get to know the professional field during a field excursion. Discover how your own areas of interest can lead you to creative solutions. Learn to reflect upon your own work, develop a self-critical attitude, and make your best work ever, which you will assemble into a convincing portfolio. Be thoroughly prepared for the admission interview. Learn how to provide others an understanding of your creative process using a ‘dummy’ and visual research. Practice your presentation skills during a portfolio advice consultation. The International Portfolio Course L by no means constitutes a guarantee of admission, but provides you with an excellent opportunity to develop and expand your portfolio.

What will you be learning during the INTERNATIONAL PORTFOLIO COURSE L?

The INTERNATIONAL PORTFOLIO COURSE L includes two components:

A / from supervised / IDEA DEVELOPMENT, VISUAL PROCESS AND WORKSHOPS

The first day of the course begins with a choice of two introductory assignments. You will then further develop your own (visual) areas of interest through self-defined assignments based on your own previous work. The emphasis during the first part of the course is on short exercises, assignments and creative strategies, which will help you arrive at high-quality, original visual solutions. Idea development, the visual process and workshops all play a key role in this regard. How can you further develop and implement your ideas using a variety of creative methods? You will be conducting visual research focusing on your own areas of interest.

Technology in this context is seen as a means rather than a goal. The focus is on learning by doing. The first phase of the Saturday course includes introductory morning classes in the form of workshops. There are computers and (free) printers which you can use during the classes. The practical classes are supplemented with design lectures and related assignments. You will be introduced to contemporary artists and designers, who can serve as inspiration for your own ideas and your own work. You will be compiling an image bank to facilitate your own work. In addition to the practical classes, there will also be a field excursion to a number of exhibitions.

B / to independent / PROFESSIONAL SPECIALIZATIONS AND ADMISSION

During the second component of the course, the emphasis increasingly shifts toward independent production. Here you will be choosing a professional specialization: the major. During the final series of classes, you will be working on a practical assignment within the major of your choice. Here you will be applying everything you have encountered and learned during the first part of the course. In the meantime you will also be assembling your portfolio. The admission procedure takes place separately from these classes. It is your own responsibility to register for the admission procedure.
