Please note: this course is only taught in Dutch. If you want to apply for this course, a good command of Dutch language is required (NT2, level 2).
Teachers of Fine Art & Design teach drawing, painting, handcrafts, textiles, cultural and artistic appreciation, visual design and general art. They are also skilled in the field of digital culture. As supervisors of extra-curricular activities they design and carry out thematic educational programmes. To this end, WdKA’s teacher training collaborates with the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, Villa Zebra, Witte de With, TENT, the Lyceum voor Beeldende Vormgeving (visual design college) and the Thorbecke Voortgezet Onderwijs (Thorbecke secondary school).
During your study, you will develop your own expressive and artistic qualities. You will work on your own expression using various materials and techniques. You will develop educational – often digital – material, survey the profession in The Netherlands and abroad, and develop projects for educational purposes in schools and outside, and in media and art education. On top of these, you will attain didactic and educational capacities and theoretical understanding. The expressive subjects play a major role in the course, as do didactics, teaching skills and digital media education.
You will do a different internship every year, which will help you prepare for your future profession at a school or a cultural institute. You will be able to put your perspective of arts education into practice within an international framework during visits abroad, and international projects or exchanges.
At the end of the study programme, you will be qualified as a Fine Art & Design Teacher. You will be able to teach at secondary schools or in tertiary education, or as an educator at a cultural centre. You can also follow further training within the Master of Education in Arts at our Piet Zwart Institute.
