Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam University offers a number of bachelor courses in higher education. Within the four main study routes of Fine Art, Design, Fine Art & Design Teacher Training and Leisure Management, you can choose between 13 majors: Fine Art, Photography, Advertising, Animation, Audiovisual Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Spatial Design, Lifestyle, Fashion Design, Product Design, Fine Art & Design Teacher Training and Leisure Management.
Our education is organized in such a way that you gain the necessary competences needed for your future profession: attitude, knowledge, know-how and skills. These competences derive from national and international agreements and are geared towards our own vision on education. For The Netherlands, the national board of higher education (HBO-raad) has – in consultation with all Dutch art academies – set out the competences students must meet after completing a course at this level. These competences match with what is expected of artists, designers and teachers starting their professional career in The Netherlands and beyond. The Dutch national agreements on competences correspond with the international standards for higher education – the so-called ‘Dublin descriptors’.
Throughout your studies, you will see the Willem de Kooning Academy’s strong international focus. There are trips to exhibitions and demonstrations across the borders, and readings by artists, designers and theoreticians who visit Rotterdam from abroad. There are also project weeks which regularly attract international guest tutors. And our students and tutors have been taking part in workshops and conferences abroad for years.
